Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has condemned the reported arrest of the Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Recall that the Yoruba nation freedom fighter was reportedly nabbed at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night while attempting to fly to Germany.

Reacting, Reno in a post on his official Facebook page, said Nigerians would gather resources to defend the Oduduwa Republic agitator.

The post reads, “The reported arrest of Sunday Igboho in Cotonou is unfortunate. He is a hero freedom fighter who defended us.

“We must now repay his good turn and also defend him and gather resources for his legal defence. Igboho deserves the same commitment from us that Buhari has shown and continues to show to killer herdsmen and bandits.

“Buhari has refused to categorise his kinsmen, who shot down a multimillion dollar Nigerian Airforce jet yesterday, as terrorists (they lied that the jet did not crash, but the pilot survived and blew open their lies).

“Yet, he has criminalised one of the few Nigerians brave enough to stand up to killer herdsmen. And that is why I stand with Igboho. Not for secession. But for defending his people”.

In the same vein, human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the arrest of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), by the Nigerian government, saying there is no crime in asking for self-determination.

Sowore, who took to his Twitter handle on Tuesday, called on all oppressed Nigerians to unite against a government that pampers bandits and terrorists and arrests those clamouring for self-determination.

He wrote, “#FreesundayIgboho: The arrest of Sunday Igboho in Cotonou by the Beninese authorities was orchestrated by tyrant Muhammadu Buhari.

“No crime asking for self-determination. Let’s all oppressed people UNITE. A government that pampers bandits and terrorists! #BuhariMustGo #RevolutionNow.”

Also, Abuja-based activist, Deji Adeyanju has berated President Muhammadu Buhari over the arrest of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemi, also known as Igboho.

Adeyanju rebuked Buhari for apprehending Igboho but failed to nab terrorists killing Nigerians in the North.

Condemning the incident, Adeyanju, who is the convener of Concerned Nigerian tweeted: “BREAKING: Jobless Buhari regime arrest Sunday Igboho in Cotonou.

“But they can’t arrest terrorists who kill people weekly and even shoot down our fighter jets.

“I urge you to stand with your own who has not committed any crime. Self determination is not a crime. They are still standing with killer herdsmen who have killed over 20,000 Nigerians under Buhari & even asking that everyone should give them land and we budget billions for them.”

Interestingly, the arrest of Igboho has raised tension in the South-West region of Nigeria.

A security alert on Tuesday morning cautioned residents to avoid volatile areas. They were advised to be “security conscious and maintained situational awareness”.

The arrest of Igboho was part of federal government’s onslaught against agitators. The presidency and the Department of State Services (DSS), at different times, hinted that the secessionist would be apprehended.

Meanwhile, a cross-section of Nigerians have lambasted the Federal Government over the reported arrest of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Nigerians who are still pouring in reactions on social media stated that the government abandoned the killer bandits ravaging the country who killed 13 policemen and shot down a Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet on Tuesday, only to be running after Igboho.

Nigerians on social media have warned that the arrest of Igboho, just a few weeks after the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra is a sign that the government was sowing a seed of discord and disunity among Nigerians.

Some social media users argued that the government was pampering bandits and kidnappers who are of northern extraction while harmless freedom fighters such as Igboho, Kanu and their followers are being hunted down.

Others also alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government is a terrorist sympathizer as there has been no visible effort to tackle terrorism in the country.

Below are reactions on microblogging platform, Twitter:

Every Nigerians should now count his teeth with his tung because this government is against your freedom of speech and they are supporting terrorists.badit can shoot down the Nigeria fighting jet but you can’t agitated for your freedom. https://t.co/hVRc8hQyhJ -— Engineer Ernest (@NnamaniSunday11) July 20, 2021

Buhari is clearly more concerned and acting very swiftly about those clamouring for secession than he is about insecurity and poverty in the country. Great. https://t.co/KylpukPADc — Ikéngà Ideato (@ikennakris) July 20, 2021

Recently a “bandit” boasted on video that he kills and slaughters Nigerian soldiers. Two days ago a “bandit” shot down a Nigerian military fighter jet in the air.
NONE OF THESE TERRORISTS arrested. NONE OF THEM. NOT ONE. But today, the Nigerian Govt has arrested Sunday Igboho.

If you’re high priority to government, you will eventually be found, as the arrest of Sunday Igboho proves. But if you’re not, whether you’re a top bandit or Boko Haram commander, your freedom is limitless. Insurgency, banditry thrive ‘cos they’re not govt’s biggest priorities. — ‘Fisayo Soyombo (@fisayosoyombo) July 20, 2021

The arrest of both Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho while simultaneously pampering Ahmad Gumi and his like DESPITE Northern rebels shooting down an Air Force jet sends a message that people will listen to. That message will persist even after Buhari leaves. I pity his successor. — Chxta (@Chxta) July 20, 2021

Nigerian state is seriously provoking the entire southerners to war. A call for Referendum is a democratic process that’s enshrined in @UN & Nigerian constitution, why then is @NigeriaGov kicking against agitators? In Buhari Nigeria, Terrorists, Killer Fulani Herdsmen, bandits and kidnappers are pampered as untouchables while freedom fighters are tortured, arrested and incarcerated or even killed. Hope Nigerians are taking note because the table will turn soon. No condition is permanent!! — NEDU Samuel (P.Cule) (@Nedusam01) July 20, 2021

Nigerians on Facebook have also reacted to the report of Igboho’s arrest.

Madueke Enwere wrote, “But yet, bandits who’re within the country can’t be tamed nor arrested. But Nigeria is able to internationally coordinate the arrests of Igboho and Kanu. Just last Sunday, not less than 13 policemen were massacred by bandits in Zamfara yesterday, an air force jet was brought down by the same bandits.”

Emeh Chidozie commented, “And same gallant men continue to fall every day in the hands of their dirty games. Yet they continue to be used against those fighting to better their lives. If they can track him that far and arrest him then they know where the bandits are. And of course, they know, they can ask Gumi if they’re lost! The so-called bandits are invisible because the government turns a blind eye.”

Oluwatosin Affinih said, “Shame! Shame! Shame! Killers are parading our farms and highways but they are untouchable and unarrestable. Utter shame and show of shame! Confirms collisions in high places! But there’s a God that lifts up and bring down.”

Babatunde Israel noted, “So the government has the idea to coordinate with the foreign bodies by arresting Kanu and Igboho, the same should also be used to end Bokoharam and bandits killing and terrorising the country.”

Tunde Odeyale said, “This current government is just putting more hatred in the mind of his people especially the Southerners. Arresting Sunday Igboho and Kanu is not the best, it will fuel more discord, enmity among the south and the north and distance us more. Expect more of these guys, if not now but later.”

In addition, Simon Ekpa, one of the disciples of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has referred to the arrest of the Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, as a call for war.

Ekpa, a Finnish who was recently appointed to announce on Radio Biafra pending the release of Kanu, in his reaction, said that the arrest has called for the disintegration of the country.

Epka made the remark on Tuesday in a post on his official Facebook page.

The post reads, “This is the time for Southern Nigeria to collectively call for a referendum.

“The Fulani controlled security agencies are busy doing cross border abduction of those opposing Usman Dan Fodio conquest within Africa.

“What is going on in Africa is an organised Jihad, where most of the President in those African countries are Fulanis and they are collaborating with their Nigeria counterparts to clampdown on those fighting against them.

“The arrest of Sunday Igboho in Benin Republic is a call for Southern Nigeria to prepare to separate from Northern Nigeria.

“We will watch to see how the Fulanis will handle the Igboho repatriation from Benin Republic whether they will follow due process or kidnap him like they did to our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Now, the war has been declared between the North and the South. The killer Fulanis are crossing borders, entering Nigeria to kill our women and children without anybody arresting them, they cross the borders heavily armed.

“What will happen from now onward will be in history books after Nigeria’s dissolution.

“I am Simon Ekpa, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s disciple on Biafra restoration. 20.07.2021”.
